Ethereum name service (ENS) domains are different from traditional Domain Name System (DNS) website domains. Domains of the ENS b Ethereum Wallet addresses are much easier to remember than traditional alphanumeric wallet addresses to ease the hassle of sending funds and assets. But normal web browsers can't do much with them.
But with a new alliance between ENS and GoDaddy, the two are getting closer. A web domain registrar is connected to ENS so that a DNS address (such as .com or .net) can be associated with an ENS name (.eth), thereby allowing the DNS domain to be used by crypto apps, wallets and more.
“At this milestone, we are advancing our mission to build a more secure, decentralized and user-friendly Internet,” said Nick Johnson, founder of ENS.
“ENS, like DNS, is a public good and an integral part of the Internet infrastructure,” he continued. “By combining ENS Names and GoDaddy Domains, we're redefining the way users interact with web domains, combining the familiarity of DNS with the power of blockchain technology.”
As a Blog post, GoDaddy has added a new section to its domain management dashboard, which allows users to associate an owned ENS name with a hosted DNS name. There are no additional fees to use the feature, and ENS says your DNS domain name can be used in place of an ENS address on supported exchanges and marketplaces.
ENS said it was previously possible to import DNS names into the Ethereum-based decentralized architecture, but it was an expensive process that cost up to 0.5 ETH — currently worth $1,150. But last week Gasless DNS Functionality enables movement without such exorbitant network charges.
