With Off the Grid suddenly becoming one of the biggest games in space right now, the game is starting to turn to its promised revenue potential, which seems to be tied to the system of hex loot boxes and the items they contain.
Once all the Avalanche-based crypto and NFT technology is fully implemented, we suspect that you will be able to make some money by buying and selling both hexes and the items they contain on the in-game marketplace. In exchange for the promised GUN token.
But players still want to get their hands on some of the rarer items in the game – to give their loadouts better equipment or just to show off cosmetic icons. According to some members of the community, over 3 million hexes have been unlocked, and some of the rare items certainly look pretty cool.
So more than a few reasons to try to find and extract some hexes in Off the Grid, we've come up with some tips to make sure you leave the battlefield using as many hexes as possible at the end of each game.
This may sound obvious, but if hunting hexes is your game, you really need to check every unlocked box you see on the map. This is after you find your loadout drop or the gear you're excited about, because you never know where a rare hex might be hiding. If you're looking for hexes, you can find at least one or two in most matches.
Look at the map
If you open the map, you'll often see some large colored circles based on strong colors with a small hex box symbol in the middle. That means somewhere in their circle there is a player with a hex of that color in their circle. Not the exact location, but enough information for confident players to try and pick up an extra hex or two. After all, if you kill the people you looted, there is no need for looting.
Listen
Similarly, whenever someone starts clearing a hex in your area, there will be an announcement letting all players know where they are. Especially if you're hunting hexes and aren't too worried about winning the matchup, this is your best chance to go grab some simple loot boxes.
But it's a good idea to try to get a good look at their position from a distance before just running with a group that has had time to prepare and run to the exit. This should give you an extra lore advantage for the fights you need to win if you want to take their hex.
Follow the lines to stop extracting the hex
If you end up with an extractor in the process of extracting hexes, your work isn't over yet. Starting an extraction only requires interacting with the main console, but trying to stop an extraction requires you to find one of the power sources, shoot the silver panels on the tower, then return to the main console and interact with it. To stop extraction.
To find said power source, you'll need to follow the giant cables coming out of the main console. Once you do this, the % counter will start to count down. If it hits zero, the hex will pop out of the machine, ready for you to pick up and start mining your own. It's a complicated system that isn't well explained and takes a long time to work, but a rare item or two might work for you.
Extraction continues outside the circle
This is my favorite way to easily extract hexes. If you soon see an extractor coming out of the circle, walk up to it and start extracting the circle as soon as it arrives. In this way, the extraction process still takes place, but to stop it, players must go outside the circle and take a lot of damage while running in the above process. Usually that's a pretty stupid idea, so if you get the timing right it's basically freeing.
