Open AI to promote AI app monetization with GPT Store
Artificial intelligence (AI) firm OpenAI has launched a plan to introduce a way for creators of pre-trained transformers (GPT) to monetize their personal AI systems. OpenAI publishes its personalized AI applications in the new GPT repository, a marketplace for personalized AI applications.
The company announced its GPT monetization plans alongside the GPT Store launch in a blog post on Wednesday, January 10. “In Q1 (2024) we will launch the GPT developer revenue program. As a first step, US builders will be paid based on user engagement with GPTs,” he says. The publication went on to say that the store will initially be rolled out to users with paid ChatGPT plans.
The GPT Repository is located within the ChatGPT website and is a place for users to find and build GPTs or AI for tasks such as math teaching or sticker design. The GPT Store is divided into eight sections: Top Picks, Dall-E, Writing, Productivity, Research, Programming, Education, and Lifestyle.
Special GPTs in Dall-E create images from ideas, while the writing section edits text. Productivity increases efficiency, and research and analysis GPTs aid in data interpretation. Programming supports coding and learning, the Education section explores ideas and assesses skills, and the Lifestyle section offers advice on travel, exercise, style and food.
When downloading WebGPT, GPT requires the user to register for ChatGPT Plus. The Microsoft-backed startup announced GPT storage at its first developer conference in November 2023. It was originally set to go live later that month.

Reuters reported that OpenAI postponed its GPT repository in December, saying it was improving GPTs based on feedback. The delay coincided with the unexpected removal and reinstatement of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman due to employee concerns.
Additionally, on January 10, OpenAI announced the launch of a paid ChatGPT group for companies that ensures privacy at work. It costs $25 to $30 per user per month and encrypts company data to protect privacy.
