OpenAI and Arizona State University partner for the ChatGPT implementation
Artificial Intelligence (AI) developer OpenAI and Arizona State University (ASU) – one of the leading research universities in the United States – announced a new collaboration to implement ChatGPT Enterprise in higher education.
The Jan. 18 announcement makes ASU the first higher education institution to partner with OpenAI. Beginning in February, university faculty and staff will be invited to submit ideas for new uses for the ChatGPT enterprise.
The university's three main focus areas include enhancing student achievement, new avenues for innovative research, and streamlining organizational processes.
According to Lev Gonik, chief information officer at ASU, nearly two-thirds of organizations are “actively exploring” integrating AI.
“The goal is to use our core knowledge at ASU to develop AI-driven projects to transform educational techniques, aid scholarly research, and increase administrative efficiency.”
Access to advanced AI tools will help level the playing field for both individuals and organizations to use AI for creative and innovative endeavors, he said.

The university is already committed to “testing AI in all its forms” and has announced the launch of the AI Acceleration Group in 2023, a new technology group dedicated to creating the next generation of AI tools.
According to the university's official announcement, the OpenAI collaboration will promote the development of “innovative solutions” as part of this group's efforts. Gonik said:
“If last year was considered creative AI's breakout year, 2024 will be a time of meaningful experimentation and exploration to harness the true power of this technology.”
OpenAI is also actively involved in new partnerships starting in 2024 with partnerships between media giants CNN, Fox and Time to secure news content licenses.
Cointelegraph reached out to ASU for more details on the latest collaboration.
