The team behind the popular Ethereum farming game announced on Monday that it will feature a new spinoff game called Pixel Dungeon that will feature dungeon combat and earn players the same popular PIXEL tokens.
Developed in partnership with Crack and Stack, the new game introduces a fast-paced competitive mode where players can navigate dangerous dungeons, collect crypto rewards, and battle opponents. Players have two minutes to mine PIXEL Tokens, use TNT to defeat goblins, and avoid lava while other players can claim their precious resources.
Pixel Dungeons, the first publishing deal for a game developed by an external studio, represents a new chapter for the Pixels team. The studio behind Pixel also recently soft-launched a Telegram game called Pixel Tap Track, which will eventually offer players PIXEL rewards once it's fully released.
“Future game launches or acquisitions will align with our mission to monetize the PIXEL token and increase the visibility of Web3 gaming,” Pixel co-founder and CEO Luke Barwikowski said in a statement. “The PIXEL token remains central to everything we're building – allowing players to earn and use tokens within the gaming ecosystem.”
Pixels, built on the Ethereum sidechain gaming network Ronin, now has about 200,000 “monthly active spending browsers,” Barwikowski said. The game gave away 22 million PIXELs in November—worth $5 million at current prices—and players reinvested about half of that back into the game.
Pixel Dungeons closed beta begins Monday, with tiered access based on players' reputation scores in Pixel itself. Over 3,000 reputable players have access to both free and premium maps ahead of time.
