Popular battle royale shooter Apex Legends has partnered with Grammy-winning musician Post Malone for an in-game event starting November 10, publisher Electronic Arts has announced.
The event will span “two weeks of beautiful mayhem,” according to the blog post, including a new limited-time mode called Three Strokes, created especially for co-op. Players will have three chances to be the last team with three strikes. When a team is lost, they lose one of three hits and return to a new location with all their gear. Miss all three shots and the team is out.
Post Malone also helped design new “iconic” cosmetic items, including character skins and weapon mounts co-signed by the rapper and singer. Players can earn up to 285 in-game “Camo Credits” per day by completing challenges, which can then be used to unlock cosmetic items.
Players can watch shared Twitch streams of Apex Legends play during the event from November 7-19 to unlock exclusive Post Malone cosmetics. To be eligible, players must link their EA account to their Twitch account.
Electronic Arts called the celebrity collaboration “the biggest partnership in the history of Apex Legends”. The free-to-play shooter launched in 2019 and has seen over 100 million total players to date across all platforms, including PlayStation 5 and PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Malone is known for singles such as “Circles”, “Sunflower” and “Rockstar”. This is the first major celebrity crossover for Apex Legends, although rival series Call of Duty has already turned several musicians and celebrities into playable characters, including Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj.
