Punk #7804 sold for more than 16 million ETH

Autoglyphs Set Fetches Record-Breaking $14.6 Million In Historical Nft Sales

The once-hot NFTs have seen a steep decline during the crypto winter. But this sector seems to have bounced back again following the proliferation of digital assets.

One of the nine Alien Punks was sold for 4,850 ETH – the second largest sale of CryptoPunks to date – just days after the same recent transaction of Alien Punk #3100.

Blue-skinned Punk Fetches $16.42M

Punk #7804, part of an exclusive Ethereum NFT collection of only nine Alien Punks, was released in 2015. An astonishing 4,850 ETH exchanged hands on March 20th. This equates to approximately $16.42 million at the time of the sale and the second largest transaction in ETH and USD in CryptoPunks history.

This exchange closely follows another similar sale earlier this month, Alien Punk #3100, which fetched 4,500 ETH for $16.03 million. Among the nine Alien Punks in the CryptoPunks collection, the piece is one of the most expensive of the collection and features blue skin and a bandana.

The identity of the buyer remains undisclosed, reflecting the anonymity of the previous buyer. However, the person who sold Punk #7804 for 4,200 ETH in 2021 for over $7.50 million has tweeted that he regrets not “raising” Punk's profile during his ownership. The tweet in question read:

“End of an era. I felt like an impostor for a long time. Catching the punks and not promoting 7804 would be a complete hostage to NFT. After looking around for over a year, I feel like I've found a buyer with the right vision to maximize this property.”

The CryptoPunks journey so far

CryptoPunks was launched in June 2017 by Larva Labs Studio. The rights to the NFT collection were later acquired by Yuga Labs, the creators behind the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) project, for an undisclosed sum. To celebrate its sixth anniversary in June 2023, Yuga Labs has teamed up with Zack Group to produce a book containing the official documents of the NFT collection.

According to data from CryptoSlam, CryptoPunks have closed more than $55.24 million in sales through March. It boasted 71 unique sellers and 49 unique buyers for the same period.
