Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced talks with the US to work together on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant project without Ukraine's participation, Kommersant reported.

Putin Washington has expressed interest in establishing crypto mining operations at Europe's largest nuclear power plant. Another idea being discussed is to provide electricity from the plant to Ukraine, he said.

Putin said Ukrainians still run the facility, but have now taken Russian citizenship.

The plant supplied more than 20% of Ukraine's electricity until the Russian invasion disrupted its operations.

Russia will take control of the space from March 2022, operating through Rosatom, despite fears of conflict.
