An anonymous bidder bought an NFT, labeled “Cryptopunk #3100”, at around 6:30pm PST. After several days of bidding, the buyer raised his previous bid of 4.25K ETH ($14.78M at the time) to a closing price of 4.5K ETH.
Cryptopunk #3100 is one of 10,000 total Cryptopunks and one of only 406 with the headband. But its current price might be due to it being one of the 9 Alien cryptopunks.
The highest winning bid to date for Cryptopunk was on February 12, 2022, when Cryptopunk #5822 (Alien in Badonna) sold for 8,000 ETH (worth $23.7M at the time).
Interestingly, the bandana is slightly less rare than the headband with 481 Cryptopunks wearing the former versus the aforementioned 406 with the latter characteristic.
Rarity isn't everything.
Technically speaking, if we consider the least popular alien NFT feature among all Cryptopunks, the alien wearing earrings and a cowboy hat is listed as rare. Mathematically, though, the cap-forward, pipe-and-shadow alien is extremely unusual in terms of the number of features and the rarity of each feature.
The market is ultimately dictated by sales and for whatever reason ‘alien with a blankie' and ‘alien with a headband' remain the cream of the crop when it comes to Cryptopunks. They are joined by two other foreign pieces in the top four. The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Cryptopunks with the “monkey” feature.
The most expensive NFT ever bought at auction was Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann's “EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS” for $69,346,250 on March 11, 2020.
