Taking the stage moments after a New York jury delivered a guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is both on the same page — at least when it comes to cryptocurrency. He is concerned about the issue.
Asked about Trump's recent face on cryptocurrency, Kennedy said, “I'm very happy to be doing this.”
“More politicians and [SEC chair] Gary Gensler also came out to do an ETF for Ethereum, and I think those are promising,” he continued. “Are they politically driven? Maybe, but I don't want to see their motivations. I'm glad they did.”
The approval of the spot Ethereum ETF was seen as a potential sea change in crypto politics—though Gensler has not made any public comments about the agency's actions.
“A lot of people are realizing the importance of cryptocurrencies—especially bitcoin, in my view—and the importance of having decentralized currencies that can re-energize our country and make our country a hub for entrepreneurship again,” Kennedy said.
He titled the cryptocurrency debate “empowering individuals—the power to hold their wealth without dilution, to move it across borders without the government taking it away from you.” He said the country needed “foundation money to save us from war.”
According to Kennedy, the emergence of artificial intelligence has boosted the crypto community's confidence in adoption.
“The reason I was drawn to this community in the first place was to re-democratize American society, to have transparency, honesty, and resilience—especially with the rise of AI and all these really dystopian, totalitarian technologies. But to collect our data, it can be used for government surveillance and control.
“We need something to protect us now to protect our values, our democracy, our transparency,” he continued. The obvious way to do this is with the blockchain and you can fix the voting system on the blockchain.
Kennedy, however, has made it clear that he strongly opposes the newly convicted ex-president.
“I'm not a Trump fan, I'm running against him,” Kennedy continued, adding that Trump had increased the US national debt by $8 trillion. “After promising to run America like a business, he shut down our country, turned our country in. [a] Foreign War – The division in our country is mostly based on him and Biden and it is not a good thing for our country.
Kennedy also criticized prosecutors, saying the trial and its outcome had boosted Trump's appeal to some voters.
“I think this is the weakest case that people have made against him. My belief is that in the end, a large part of the American people will help President Trump,” he said.
Regarding his chances of being elected as an independent third-party candidate, Kennedy pushed back on the idea that his campaign was taking too much support from the president. Biden.
“My supporters will vote for President Trump if I'm not in the race,” he said, referring to a poll conducted by his group in which he beat both major party candidates in a theoretical head-to-head race. There is no way President Biden will win.
