Rocket Pool X account hacked, falsely reporting smart contract hack
At X (formerly Twitter), users are reporting that warnings about hacking the Rocket Pool protocol are themselves the work of hackers. As of 6:30 PM UTC, six warnings were displayed on the Rocket Pool X account. The posts were removed at 7:05pm UTC but reappeared minutes later.
“A vulnerability has been discovered in our smart contracts that is being exploited by bad actors. At this time, we cannot guarantee the security of any assets associated with our smart contracts. Please migrate your assets below to ensure your security.” Users read on account of Rocket Pool X. That message was replaced with similar messages:
“Bad actors are carrying out fake deposit attacks. To make sure your assets are safe, switch to the new contract below.”
Other inappropriate messages were also reported on the account.
Meanwhile, Rocket Pool was warning readers not to respond to the messages on other social media. Those warnings were quickly heeded and redistributed to X, which was soon flooded.
