Despite public invitations to return to the Bitcoin community, former Bitcoin investor Roger Ver is sticking with Bitcoin Cash (BCH) — and says layer-2 blockchains are obsolete.
Blockstream CEO and early Bitcoin developer Adam Back extended an olive branch to Ver after the latter's book was published. In “Bitcoin Hacking: The Hidden History of BTC,” Ver proves that Bitcoin's original vision was corrupted. Ver spoke to Decrypt about the current state of Bitcoin Cash and his reaction to the backlash — and he's not holding back.
“The software development was carried out by a small team that completely copied the original design,” he told Decrypt.
The Layer-2 debate involves a philosophical divide between BTC and BCH. Bitcoiners believe that L2 solutions help chain balance, while BCH enthusiasts say those solutions are centralized solutions to problems that can be better solved by incorporating larger blocks into the original network. On the other hand, large blocks are not liked by small miners, because they require more energy and lead to more organizational needs in space.
Both parties claim to support the original vision of Bitcoin, meanwhile, as described by anonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto.
At the banquet, Beck urged Ver to give L2s a chance. Veer was left in doubt.
“These ‘second layers' are centralized systems or they don't work securely,” Weir told Decrypt, “This is especially true for Adam Back's Liquid Network, where the company takes every transaction fee.”
In the year Despite the evolution of the cryptocurrency market after the Bitcoin Cash fork in 2017, Ver says, “BCH remains the true representation of Satoshi's vision.”
Financially, Roger Ver seems to see himself as orthodox when it comes to following Satoshi's guidelines. This has been the case for those behind Bitcoin Satoshi's Vision (BSV), in turn a BCH fork introduced by Craig Wright that claims to be the only one following Nakamoto's original plan.
In the year The rivalry may be more important today than it was in 2017, but the stark differences in each camp seem to feel that the differences between them are still too great to reach consensus. Decrypt asked Roger Vern if he saw any future collaboration between the two communities, and he seemed to be in favor of letting the market decide.
“When people wake up and realize that the growth of BTC has been arrested and that secondary levels of Bitcoin have not been able to scale, my hope is that people will realize that BCH is a very good alternative, it is technically superior and can be both digital. Gold and digital cash at the same time,” Ver said.
Which aspects of Bitcoin are broken? “The book explains the details,” he replied.
Ver is perhaps the most prominent leading voice in the BCH community, but when asked about the token's future roadmap, he emphasized the decentralized nature of the network and community.
“There is no CEO of Bitcoin Cash,” he told Decrypt. “I don't find this question very relevant to myself.”
