Ronin To Scale Web3 Games With New Zkevm.

Gaming blockchain Ronin has announced the upcoming launch of Ronin's zkEVM, a zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) layer-2 chain powered by Sky Mavis' updated version of the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK).

On June 18, the team announced that it will introduce a dedicated ZK chain to accommodate more users and boost its game studio partners. This move is expected to enhance the license-free environment, facilitating the integration of more gaming experiences across the network.

Additionally, the team plans to include Polygon ZK authentication registered in Ronin, which will allow game studios to build their own zkEVM blockchains without compromising their own security and interoperability.

Preparing to handle billions of transactions

Originally developed for the popular play-to-earn (P2E) game Axie Infinity, Ronin Block now supports a wider gaming ecosystem. According to Ronin blockchain browser data, the network has already reached 1.4 million daily active addresses.

Jeff Zirlin, co-founder of Sky Mavis, the team behind Ronin, told Cointelegraph that the network is preparing to handle billions of transactions. Zirlin explained:

“With 1.5 million daily active users, Ronin is the largest gaming blockchain globally. Currently, Ronin can handle up to 40 million transactions per day, but we are preparing for a future where we can handle 400 million or even four billion transactions, and zkEVM is key to this.

With Ronin zkEVM's enhanced scalability, the Sky Mavis team believes partner studios can continue to innovate and expand.

The network has onboarded major blockchain games that benefit from its player base. Since migrating to Ronin in October 2023, the web3 game Pixel has surpassed 4.4 million users.

Zirlin also noted other benefits of the new zkEVM chain, including a seamless cross-chain experience and higher maximum rewards.

“This step in our permissionless journey includes allowing third-party developers to open their own layer-2 blockchains on Ronin, opening up opportunities for more games and players,” he said.

Creating an integrated Web3 game ecosystem

Truong Nguyen, CEO and Co-Founder of SkyMavis, said their goal is to create a unified gaming ecosystem that integrates asset transfer, token exchange and non-volatile token (NFT) trading between layer-1 and layer-2 games. Nguyen explained:

“We believe Ronin zkEVM is critical to helping us onboard billions of gamers. With Polygon Technology, this collaboration marks a new era for Web3 gaming.”

Meanwhile, Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nilwal emphasized the impact of Polygon's CDK. Nilwal believes Ronin is “leading the way” by combining technology with tangible distribution power and user engagement.

Nilwal added that their Polygon CDK supports Ronin's gaming ecosystem and makes the network an attractive destination for game studios.
