On Monday, November 20, OpenAI's board announced that Altman would not be returning as CEO, with his role being given to former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear.
And now Satya Nadella, the chairman and CEO of Microsoft Corporation, has announced that Altman will join the company. He is also set to lead the tech giant's new Advanced AI research team.
“We're excited to share that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, along with their colleagues, will join Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team. We look forward to moving quickly to provide the resources needed for their success,” Nadella said in a post on X:
Microsoft will continue to work with OpenAI, Nadella said. The company has invested $10 billion in an artificial intelligence company.

Market watchers say this is a big move from Microsoft, one they like to strengthen its position in the AI space. “The mission continues,” says Altman, perhaps from OpenAI Inc. It may be by indicating that he should continue in a direction that may bring him into conflict with the board.
