Searching for ‘AI’ on Google will disrupt Bitcoin and crypto this year
Google Trends data shows that Google users were more interested in searching for artificial intelligence (AI) than “Bitcoin” or “crypto” this year.
Since 2020, searches for “Bitcoin” and, occasionally, “crypto” have surpassed searches for “AI,” but Google data shows that this will begin to reverse in August 2022.
Searches for “AI” began around November 2022, the same month that OpenAI's ChatGPT launched, and since then it has expanded its range of crypto-related search terms.
Global search interest in “AI” currently commands a Google Trends score of 91, with Bitcoin sitting at 22. Google scores search terms from 0 to 100 based on the volume of the topic along with general searches on all topics.
The results may not come as a surprise, as Bitcoin (BTC) continues to suffer from the tail-end of the bear market cycle that lasted for the latter half of 2021 and most of 2022. However, in the process he began to recover the lost ground. This year.
Bitcoin started the year at $16,900 – below its all-time high of $68,729 on November 11, 2021, but has since gained nearly 150% to reach a price of $43,400, according to CoinMarketCap data.
Google Trends shows that Bitcoin has seen the most interest from El Salvador, Nigeria, Netherlands, Brazil and Switzerland.
On the other hand, it's been a banner year for developments, including fears that artificial intelligence AI could take over the jobs of actors, the proliferation of AI naked services, and excitement over new chatbots including ChatGPT, Google Bard, Meta AI, and Grokai. The latter was started by tech billionaire Elon Musk.
Google Trends data shows interest in AI, particularly from users in Vietnam, China, the Philippines and Myanmar.
Crypto X (formerly Twitter) user Autism Capital was among the first to point out the trend in a December 26 post to his 249,900 followers.
One of the differences between the comments in the article is that Bitcoin and crypto are a relatively old point of interest compared to AI – meaning that people have looked at crypto terms extensively in the past years.
