Shiba Inu developer asks Trump to appoint blockchain adviser
Shitoshi Kusama, lead developer of Shiba Inu, has asked President-elect Donald Trump to appoint a blockchain advisor to his administration.
The recommendation comes as the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) attempts to implement a blockchain-based electoral system.
Kusama explains why Trump should hire a blockchain consultant.
On November 15, Kusama shared concerns about the blockchain election platform rumored to be being evaluated by the Trump team. Dubbed “Evote”, the rumored system will reportedly collaborate with popular blockchain platforms such as Cardano, Hyperledger, Hedera and X (formerly Twitter). It aims to create a nationwide electronic voting and identity verification solution.
The eVote initiative seeks to combat voter fraud by calling for adoption by all US states. Analysts believe this is in line with Trump's longstanding emphasis on ensuring election integrity, particularly in relation to past election processes.
While the idea has received a lot of attention, Kusama insists that its success depends on integrating fully homomorphic encryption (FHA). This advanced encryption ensures that voter data is secure against blockchain and external threats.
Kusama warned that without FHE, sensitive voter data such as identities and votes could be exposed to decryption attempts by malicious actors. This vulnerability can lead to widespread outages. He emphasized that encryption must be strong enough to deal with the risks of quantum computing, ensuring security on and off-chain.
“Without FHE, this concept fails. This is the reason. Not only the chain, but the expected votes… Encrypted in some way with quantum proof. Otherwise, a bad actor country will decode the votes and print a wallet and see who voted who. Chaos ensues,” explained Kusama.
As a result, Shiba Inu's developer has called for Trump to appoint an independent blockchain advisor to address these challenges. Such an appointment can bridge the gap between technology and public policy.
In particular, industry leaders such as Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson have expressed interest in collaborating with government policymakers to foster regulatory transparency and foster blockchain innovation.
If Trump follows through, this move would be consistent with a growing relationship with crypto-centric figures. Recently, DOGE appointed crypto advocates Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head it and appointed Florida Congressman Matt Gates, a Bitcoin proponent, as Attorney General. Additionally, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is known for his pro-Bitcoin stance, is set to become Secretary of Health and Human Services.
