Siemens and Microsoft partner to push AI adoption in industrial sectors



German technology company Siemens has partnered with Microsoft to announce the new generative artificial intelligence (AI) powered assistant, Siemens Industrial Copilot.

On October 31, the companies announced an AI assistant to promote “human-machine collaboration” and increase productivity. In the announcement, they said they will build additional AI assistants to complement professionals in the manufacturing, healthcare, transportation and infrastructure industries.

The companies said they intend to bring “the benefits of generative AI to industries around the world.” Within the manufacturing industry itself, the companies said they are planning pilots for automotive, consumer packaged goods and machine building.

According to Microsoft, German automotive manufacturer Schaeffler has already adopted Siemens Industrial Copilot.

Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella says he sees the next generation of AI bringing innovation “across all industries.”

Siemens CEO Roland Busch echoed the sentiment:

“This has the potential to change the way companies design, develop, manufacture and operate.”

He pointed out that access to human-machine collaboration will allow engineers to increase the speed at which they can develop code, create and deal with any labor shortages.

German manufacturer Bosch, a direct competitor of Siemens, announced a $100 million grant plan in February in partnership with the Fetch.ai Foundation to support Web3, AI and Internet of Things development projects.

Bosch was seen testing the invention at the automotive show with EU and blockchain companies at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, Germany in September.

In the year AI has been making waves in industries around the world since the release of OpenAI's GPT-4 in November 2022, when the creation of high-level models became widely accessible.
