Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Marks A Decade In Prison Today


Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the darknet marketplace Silk Road, announced today that he has completed a decade in prison.

In the year In 2013, Ulbricht was arrested and sentenced to two life terms for his role in creating Silk Road and an illegal online platform that led to the seizure of billions of dollars worth of bitcoin.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on October 1st, Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht revealed today that he has spent a full decade behind bars.

Ulbricht's family is believed to have turned down the idea because the prison has no internet access. In the post, he expressed his fear that he would eventually be released from prison.

“One year for each finger on both hands. Today is the end of a full ten years in jail. Sometimes I fear I will spend the rest of my life behind cement walls and locked doors.”

Fans on X gave it a lot of positive feedback. Many say he learned from his significant time in prison.

“The punishment should fit the crime, and your punishment doesn't even come close,” said one user. Another standout is that individuals have been released from prison for more serious crimes.

“The punishment does not fit the crime and those who have done the worst have had a chance at redemption.”

Lynn Ulbricht insists her son has a good idea. However, the Silk Road eventually turned into a hub for criminal activity.

“He wants to help solve problems and make the world a better place, and that's why he loves Bitcoin, because it opens up wealth for people who don't have a bank account. That's his mindset.”

She also talked about how hard it was to keep her son in jail. “When your loved one is in prison, you're giving yourself time,” she said. Moreover, she stated that she made it her life's purpose to save his life.

Despite most of the efforts to save him, I will continue to live.
