'Solana Killer' Sui Down, No Blocks Done Over 1 Hour.

The Sui decentralized layer-1 blockchain, designed for rapid smart contract deployment, suffered a major outage on November 21, halting block production for over an hour.

The Sui blockchain has been down for over an hour without producing any blocks, according to data from Sui network explorer Suvivision.

According to the data, the last block took place at 9:15 am UTC, and no new blocks have been created as of this writing.

Several industry observers reacted to the decline, with many citing Sui's ambitions to become a bigger competitor to Solana (SOL), the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

“SUI blockchain is down. And they claimed to be Solana's killer,” crypto YouTuber Ajay Kashyap wrote on X.

The delay affected Sui (SUI), a blockchain native cryptocurrency, which fell by 11%, according to data from CoinGecko. Still, it was trading around $3.40 and still up about 75% over the last 30 days.

Some major exchanges have responded to the issue on the Sui blockchain. South Korean crypto exchange Upbit has temporarily suspended SUI deposits and withdrawals, citing network issues.

As of this writing, Sui Foundation has not released any information about the vacation. Cointelegraph reached out to the foundation for comment on the matter but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
