Solana Mobile’s ‘Chapter 2’ airdrops are slightly higher than the pre-order price
Early owners of Solana's ‘Chapter 2' mobile had a chance to profit from the yet-to-be-released handset – memecoins briefly surpassed the cost of the phone after it was released to buyers.
In April, the groups behind two cat-themed memecoin projects: Cat in the Dog World (MEW) and Maneki (MANEKI) airdropped tokens to the wallets of crypto users who pre-ordered the new Season 2 device – which initially cost $450.
On April 1st, the team behind MEW released 37,600 tokens for each container. At a post-air peak price of $0.0089, this allocation was $334, according to CoinGecko data.
Similarly, a total of 5,199 MANEKI were airdropped on April 24 for each container, reaching a peak price of $0.269 on April 25.
Combined with other memecoin projects, including Wuffi (WUFFI), which dropped 114,000 tokens to its Chapter 2 wallet, the combined airdrops collected $480 for owners — allowing them to pay for the device and even make a $30 profit, according to Weather Valuer. twoloot.com,
The price of memecoins has dropped, however, MEW is only worth $220 at its current price, while MANEKI has fallen to $124.
When pre-ordering the Phase 2 devices, buyers were required to link Solana's wallet address, which means the airdropped tokens will be available to pre-orders before the phone arrives.

Owners of Solana's first mobile device “Saga” received a mannequin of the same size in their wallet.
The original Solana Saga was released in May 2023 to little fanfare, with many reviews listing technical issues and usability concerns with the devices.
However, the phones started flying off the shelves when they seemed to cotton on to a rare arbitrage opportunity presented by memecoin's rally for Bonk (BONK) in December.
Between November 15 and December 15, 2023, the value of BONK increased by over 1,100%. At the high end, the 30,000 BONK airdrop cost more than $1,150 — $551 more than the original $599 price tag associated with the Saga Phone.
