Ethereum NFT crowdfunding platform Veve has launched its new VeVe Comics platform and digital comic book reader, the company announced on Thursday. The original comic books came from industry giant Marvel Comics.
With Marvel as a launch partner, Vive said fans will now have access to more than 300 new Marvel digital issues, including ones based on heroes like Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain Marvel and Black Panther. New comic books are added on publication date and feature a panel-by-panel view. The company claims that every page is digitally altered by hand.
What makes VeVe's comic book platform different from buying digital comics on Amazon or the now defunct Comixology? In addition to regular digital comic books, VeVe also sells limited edition NFT versions, priced the same as print and digital copies available elsewhere.
The limited edition NFT versions are available in various levels of rarity, each with a unique edition number. These NFTs—coined on the Ethereum scaling network Immutable X—can also be resold on VeVe's marketplace, containing up to five different comic book covers and read in an augmented reality experience on the VeVe app.
The limited edition comics cost an average of $3 more than the regular digital versions, which have been rebranded as NFTs.
“As avid readers and collectors, we recognize that digital comics fans are calling for a more immersive experience,” Vive CEO David Yu said in a statement. [and] It promotes community and accessibility for all.”
The VeVe Comic Book app is free to download on iOS and Android. VeVe users can access the NFT Marketplace and the Comics app with the same account. Vive said the Marvel Comics merger is just the beginning of his alliance with various brands in the comic book industry.
In the year Founded in 2018, Vive focuses on digital collections from a variety of major entertainment brands, including Marvel, DC Comics, Disney and more. Immutable X is known as a gaming network for NFTs for games like Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians.
