Square Enix will adjust its organizational structure to support blockchain, Web3 and AI by 2024
Multimedia entertainment company Square Enix is working to revamp its organizational structure and improve the company's resource allocation to support its renewed focus on implementing artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain/Web3 and cloud technologies by 2024.
Square Enix President Takashi Kiryu announced the upcoming changes in a blog post titled “New Year's Letter from the President.”
“We have previously identified three areas of focus investment, namely blockchain entertainment/web 3.0, AI and cloud. Last year, we redefined our overall mission and goals for these three areas. We are working to improve our organizational structure and optimize our resource allocation to support these efforts.
Kiryu also revealed that Square Enix intends to be “aggressive in applying AI and other cutting-edge technologies” to its content development and publishing operations.
The president of the company also said that the company will embrace generative AI technologies. Citing ChatGPT in particular, Kiryu says AI has moved beyond academic debate.
I believe that generative AI has the potential to not only reshape what we create, but fundamentally change the processes by which we create, including programming.
He briefly mentioned blockchain and Web3 technologies in the letter, though Kiryu couldn't expand on the company's upcoming ambitions in these areas.

Square Enix is perhaps best known for its Final Fantasy media franchise. It is also among the largest developers/publishers of titles integrating blockchain/Web 3 technologies with traditional video games.
As Cointelegraph recently reported, Square Enix has launched an NFT-based project called “Symbiogenesis” in December 2023. According to the company, this new IP is an interactive art experience with collections and storytelling.
