Telefónica Privado Id Partners To Drive Digital Identity Adoption Across Europe

Privado ID's partnership with Telefonica Tech aims to accelerate the adoption of privacy-focused and compliant digital IDs for consumers in the EU. The collaboration comes as the EU develops elDAS2, a key regulation on digital identity.

Telefonica Tech, the digital business arm of Spanish telecom giant Telefonica Group, is working with Privado ID to advance privacy technology and the adoption of digital ID across the European Union.

Privado ID, formerly Polygon ID, a TrustOS/managed blockchain service by Telefonica Tech, will strengthen its authentication offering, the two organizations said in a press release.

“We are excited to integrate Privado ID technology with our TrustOS platform,” said José Luis Núñez, Global Head of Blockchain and Web3 at Telefónica Tech.

Looking at the EU digital identity market

The strategic alliance comes as the EU prepares for the European Digital Identity Regulation, aka elDAS2. The regulation provides for the implementation of directives obliging EU countries to provide digital ID wallets to their citizens.

eIDAS2 seeks a standardized framework to enable EU citizens, residents and citizens to benefit from electronic identification. It also means adopting compliant identity solutions, the market Telefónica Tech and Privado ID are looking at with this partnership.

“Encouraging large companies to securely integrate innovative technologies such as our advanced zero-knowledge authentication-based digital identity platform is key to the widespread adoption of self-sovereign identity,” said David Schwartz, CEO of Privado ID.

Targeted use cases include authentication, digital national IDs, e-signature solutions and privacy protection loyalty programs, among others.
