Telegram – Pavel Durov to get Mini App Store at the end of July
Telegram founder Pavel Durov has announced that the popular messaging platform will launch a mini app store and an in-app browser with built-in Web3 support at the end of July.
Durov also announced measures to mitigate fraud on the platform by displaying the month and country of registration for public-facing user accounts.
The tech entrepreneur can also label mini-apps channels, allowing for decentralized third-party authentication.
Open Network sees the viral success of mini-app games
The Telegram platform and The Open Network (TON), a separate blockchain network, are grabbing media headlines thanks to the viral success of games like Hamster Kombat and Notcoin.
According to Durov, Hamster Kombat has logged 239 million users in 81 days, highlighting the potential of blockchain games to increase player revenue.
Hamster Kombat's in-game coins are not yet exchanged for blockchain tokens. However, the developers behind the game plan to introduce a tradable digital asset for Hamster Kombat in 2024.

The hype surrounding the game promises free airdrops of fake Hamster tokens to prey on unsuspecting players using scammers' phishing attacks.
Following the meteoric success of several Telegram mini-app games, NotCoin and Helica Gaming have announced a Game Accelerator program to accelerate the development of games on the Telegram platform. Heica has offered $50 million in seed capital for its Accelerator Program and is now accepting applications.
Keeping safe on the ton
An open network is an open source, permissionless blockchain that exhibits all the benefits and pitfalls of open source systems, including phishing attacks and other scams.
In June, analysts at blockchain security firm SlowMist warned of an increase in scams in the Ton ecosystem.
According to Yu Xian, founder of Slowwife, the increase in malicious activity on the platform is mainly due to the nature of Telegram's messaging app, which exposes potential fraudsters to groups and chat rooms that they can use to further their scams.
