The Biden administration will announce key AI measures after the executive order
Three months after the release of President Joe Biden's executive order, the White House released a fact sheet on January 29 outlining its key actions on artificial intelligence (AI).
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reid convened the White House AI Council, which includes officials from various federal departments and agencies, to hear reports on how they have implemented measures from the executive order.
The fact sheet says these amendments mark “major progress in protecting Americans from potential threats from AI systems” in the president's order.
The reforms include using the Defense Products Act to require AI developers to report to the Commerce Department, including the results of AI safety testing.
“These companies now have to share this information on the most powerful AI systems, and they also have to report on the large sets of computers that can train these systems.”
Also reported as a success is the proposed bill, which would require U.S.-based cloud computing companies to report if they are providing computing power to support foreign AI training.
In addition, risk assessments have been completed by nine federal agencies covering the use of AI in all critical infrastructure sectors. According to the fact sheet, the assessments will serve as the basis for further federal action.

Jamie Nafziger, chair of Dorsey & Whitney's cybersecurity, privacy and social media practice group, told Cointelegraph:
“This is the first review of its kind, and will be conducted annually going forward. The US has also completed a number of measures to facilitate the recruitment of international AI talent.”
In addition to security-focused goals, the fact sheet highlighted new efforts and innovations over the past 90 days to “attract and train employees with AI expertise.”
This National Science Foundation and NVIDIA partnership includes the launch of the AI Talent Surge to advance AI, promote the hiring of AI experts in the federal government, and establish an AI task force at the Department of Health and Human Services, which will help develop Policies for AI innovation in healthcare.
Nafziger highlighted that the US “met or exceeded many of the requirements set forth in the executive order in the first three months.”
This year and through June 2025, we will see many other aspects of President Biden's executive order, which is expected to provide guidance from multiple federal agencies.
