Nishad Singh's lawyers say he is an “extraordinarily selfless individual” and believe he should receive a lighter sentence for his limited role in the FTX collapse.

FTX's former head of engineering has asked a judge to spare him a prison sentence, lawyers said.

Bloomberg reports that Nishad Singh's attorneys filed a memo with a Manhattan federal judge arguing that he deserves a lighter sentence because of his limited role in the cryptocurrency exchange's collapse and the “exemplary life he has led.”

“His case is unusual in all the ways that matter for sentencing: his personal history and character, his role in the alleged crimes, the speed with which he cooperated, his response to the failure of FTX and how he has since rebuilt his life. ” the lawyers wrote.

They also described him as “an unusually selfless individual” and “his role was the most limited of any defendant.”

In the year In February 2023, Singh was charged with siphoning $6 million in client funds from FTX to Alameda Research. He pleaded guilty to six criminal charges, including fraud and money laundering.

Singh testified in October against his former boss and FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.

Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to fraud and conspiracy charges. Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison was sentenced to 24 months in prison in September. Former FTX executive Ryan Salame was sentenced to 90 months in prison in May.

Singh is expected to be sentenced on October 30.
