The HyperPlay game store MetaMask Snaps will launch in the Wallet overlay
PC gaming startup HyperPlay is integrating its wallet with MetaMask Snaps, allowing players to use custom wallet applications in its games, according to a December 19 announcement.
Hyperplay is a similar game launcher from Steam, Epic Games Store and GoG (the good old games) but with the unique feature of built-in Web3 wallet MetaMask as an overlay. According to the developer of the launcher, this overlay blockchain allows players to directly verify their transactions in games instead of going to a browser wallet.
MetaMask Snaps is a feature that allows third-party developers to create apps that work within MetaMask. It launched on September 12, but at that time, the Hyperplay overlay feature didn't work with it. The latest announcement confirms that the two features are fully integrated through the HyperPlay software update.
In a chat with Cointelegraph, Hyperplay founder JacobC.eth said that the new integration will unlock a variety of features. First, many blockchains that previously couldn't push transactions to the wallet can now.
“Very clear and fast use case Block your custom wallet like Sui, Starkware, Solana, […] And since there are more native games on those chains, it expands the number of games that players can use their single and interdependent wallets on those games.
As one example, JacobC.eth discussed Bushi, a third-person shooter featuring game objects on the Sui blockchain. Bushi says that despite being the most popular game on HyperPlay, it previously did not allow users to verify transactions from within the overlay. This is because Sui is not an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchain and is not natively supported by Metamask. However, players can now install a snap that supports this blockchain, and the game will prompt them to do so every time they first try to initiate a transaction.
According to Hyperplay's founder, the Snaps-compatible overlay will provide even more functionality in the future. For example, you can install snaps that allow players to spend money on games, but only within a spending limit set by the player. This can increase the ease of use and simplicity of games that trigger multiple transactions, as it prevents the player from having to manually verify each transaction. At the same time, he said, the spending limit is enforced by accounting, so it doesn't ask users to trust the game with their money.
In June, Hyperplay raised over $12 million in a Series A funding round. He had 33 titles at the time. The launcher allows players to integrate their GoG and Epic Games accounts into the interface.
