The launch of the Google Cloud Web3 portal has sparked a debate in the crypto industry
Google Cloud has introduced a new Web3 portal for blockchain developers, including tutorials on creating data sets and non-fungible tokens (NFT). However, the reception in the cryptocurrency industry is mixed.
“No Bitcoin and Lightning Support? It seems like an oversight to ignore the most important cryptocurrency, Phil Geiger, vice president of product marketing at Unchained, said in an X post on April 25.
“Unfazed Google is behind,” anonymous crypto trader MartyParty told his 80,700 X followers on April 26.
Meanwhile, others welcomed the graduation more. EvaB Festo, founder of Metroplus Labs, described the Web3 portal as a “multipurpose resource” in an April 25 post on X.
According to the website, developers will receive testnet tokens to access various products and deploy and test their decentralized applications on the Ethereum testnets Sepolia and Holesky.
It also has an educational program with tutorials on developing NFT, implementing Web3 loyalty programs, and how to protect digital assets with multi-party calculations.
This comes after several recent developments by Google in the Web 3 industry.
Most recently, Google expanded its features to allow its users to search for wallet balances on multiple blockchains such as Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, and Fantom.

In the year In early 2024, Google updated its policies to allow certain crypto products to be advertised on major search engines, including Bitcoin exchange-traded funds.
In the year In 2023, Google seems to be focused on establishing partnerships in preparation for the portal's launch this year.
In October 2023, Google Cloud's BigQuery data warehouse was integrated with MultiversX, helping Web3 projects and users gain valuable insights from powerful data analytics and artificial intelligence tools in the Google Cloud ecosystem.
A month before this, in September 2023, Google BigQuery added 11 blockchain networks to its database.
The new networks include Avalanche, Arbitrum, Kronos, Ethereum Gurley Testnet, Phantom, Close, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon Mainnet, Polygon Mumbai Testnet and Tron.
