The Litecoin X account was briefly hacked to promote a fake token

Litecoin's (LTC) X social media account was briefly hacked on January 11 by a scammer promoting a fraudulent Litecoin token on the Solana network.

In a now-deleted and grammatically incorrect post, the hacker wrote, “LTC is now in Solana,” along with a link to the contract address and pump.fun scam token.

In an update, the Litecoin team announced that they had recovered the account and that the hack was due to a removed proxy account.

In recent months there have been a number of hacks on X promoting fake logos or phishing links designed to steal money and confidential information.

X account hacking is on the rise.

EigenLayer X's account was hacked on October 18 to promote a fake airdrop campaign.

The hacker removed several malicious links from an account promoting the “Season 2 Stakedrop” – which the scammer obtained from recruited EIGEN tokens – before the EigenLayer team recaptured the account.

On November 3, rapper Wiz Khalifa's account was hacked. The hacker used the account to promote a fake celebrity memecoin called WIZ, claiming that memecoin was associated with a music artist.

The Cardano Foundation X account suffered a similar breach on December 8 when a hacker took over its social media page and advertised a fake token called “ADAsol”.

At the time of the incident, the threat actor falsely claimed that the Cardano Foundation would stop supporting its native asset ADA due to a lawsuit from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The fake token generated nearly $500,000 in trading volume before the scam was exposed and the price of “ADAsol” dropped by more than 99 percent.

Yat Siew, founder of Web3 company Animoka Brands, was the victim of the X tag on December 26.

As in other cases, the scammer used the account to advertise a fake token – a fake memecoin on the Solana network called “Animoka Brands”, which has nothing to do with the popular Web3 company.
