The McDonald's metaverse first appeared in Singapore

American fast food chain McDonald's has launched “My Happy Place” Metaverse in Singapore, allowing locals to build virtual burgers and participate in other activities.

McDonald's Singapore has partnered with Bandwagon Labs, the Metaverse arm of entertainment media technology company Bandwagon, to build an in-app virtual world for its customers.

Speaking to Cointelegraph, Bandwagon Labs founder Clarence Chan highlighted three key aspects behind building McDonald's Metaverse.

“It's multiplayer where players see others in the world with them. Metavas is a creative canvas where we allow users to transform their creations. And third, it's full of daily rewards with unique challenges that trigger the reward system.

In addition, Web3 technologies are used to increase security, functionality, and use cases for holding digital collections. “By integrating wallet hosting services like MetaMask, we enable you to securely verify your identity and participate in tokenized activities in the Metaverse,” Chan explained.

According to the announcement, McDonald's has full control over the in-app metaverse. The project will last for one month from June 6 to July 7 and its success will determine future deployments or continuation of the services.

Chan discussed the potential of the technology in terms of customer retention and fan engagement. However, he says Metavas' current experiences are crippled by third-party hosting.

“Additionally, the lack of tangible rewards for people using Metaverse can sometimes discourage many viewers.”

Chan believes Bandwagon Labs has solved these problems for McDonald's. “Users can not only participate and play with their friends, but also participate in the platform and earn tangible rewards such as chips,” he said.
