On Thursday, the Musée d'Orsay's first ever exhibition on the chain will go on sale – the result of two experimental artists, months of coordination by the museum management and thousands of breathless guests.
The pieces, five single issue NFTs were minted on. These Blockchain, an art installation (and part social experiment) collectively titled “Breath Mixing,” is currently on view at the Musee d'Orsay, part of the museum's ongoing digital-themed exhibition. “Orsay Code”
The metal sculpture entitled “Sigma Lumina” was created by French artist and DJ Sebastien Devaud (Agora) in collaboration with artist Johan Lesquier.
When struck by the perfect alignment of light above, the sculpture creates a QR code in its shadow. Curious museum patrons who scan the QR code will be directed to work on other Impressionist works with a special, free NFT on display at the Orsay—but, and only if, to help them breathe into their phones.
On a recent trip to the exhibition, this Decrypt The reporter found many Orsay customers, from children to the elderly, blowing away their smartphones with amused expressions.
Agoria and Lescure have now taken the data from those attacks—so far more than 2,000 “Sigma Lumina” NFTs have been made by museum visitors—and combined them into five unique NFTs, one for each week of the exhibition's run.
