The incident occurred around 1 PM EST. Secret Service agents saw a man armed with an AK-47 style rifle. He was hiding in the bushes near the property. Deputies opened fire and forced the suspect to flee in his black SUV. Authorities found two backpacks with the gun and a GoPro camera near the fence. The suspect was later identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Root. He escaped but could not get away. A quick-thinking witness snapped a photo of the vehicle's license plate. That helped police locate him on Interstate 95.
Bitcoin has scored high
The news of the assassination attempt not only shook the world of politics but also the crypto market. The price of Bitcoin dropped almost 3% from $60,313 to $58,627.
This decline triggered an estimated $116.52 million in liquidity, most of which ($106.52 million) came from long trading. In the last 24 hours, 49,351 traders have increased the market volatility.
Trump's stance on making the US a cryptocurrency hub has led to this massive decline. Many in the crypto community expect it to create better regulations and a nurturing environment for the space.
The authorities responded
The FBI is treating the incident as an “attempted murder.” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas praised the Secret Service's quick action, saying it could have prevented a serious incident. He emphasized that protecting presidential candidates remains a priority.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris expressed relief that Trump was unharmed. Both leaders strongly condemned the violence, calling for an end to such attacks.
