The United Kingdom High Court has issued an asset freeze order against Craig Wright
The UK High Court has upheld Peter McCormack's global freezing order against Craig Wright's assets.
McCormack is seeking more than £1.5 million ($1.9 million) in legal fees related to Wright's defamation suit against the podcaster.
The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom In 2019, he issued a worldwide freezing order, or ‘WFO', against the assets of Craig Wright, an Australian computer scientist who sued entrepreneur and podcast host Peter McCormack.
In this case, the court granted the WFO's application against Wright to award McCormack more than £1.5 million ($1.9 million) in legal fees.
This is according to legal documents filed on Friday, July 5.
Wright sued McCormack for defamation and lost
In the year In 2019, Wright filed a defamation lawsuit against McCormack, who accused the podcaster of defamation for comments that Wright was not the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.
Wright lost that case in August 2022 and an appeal was dismissed on July 26, 2023. The UK Supreme Court rejected Wright's appeal in December 2023.
In his ruling, Judge Mellor also noted the changes surrounding COPA testing. In May 2024, Judge Craig Wright ruled that Satoshi Nakamoto was not the creator of Bitcoin. The ruling also made it clear that Craig did not write the Bitcoin white paper that spawned the world's largest digital asset.
Peter McCormack shared the latest ruling against Wright in this case, noting that the global freezing order would help him recover his legal fees “in the sum of £1.548m”.
