Uk Taxman Wants Crypto Owners To Disclose Unreported Gains

The UK taxman has launched a new voluntary disclosure process for people with unreported crypto profits. Following a recent crackdown on corporate tax evaders, HM Revenue and Customs requires the public to report income from crypto exchange tokens (NFTs) and utility tokens.

This disclosure follows an earlier program to disclose non-crypto taxes in the UK. The UK government has previously estimated that between 55% and 95% of cryptoholders may be breaking tax laws.

Crypto taxpayers should seek advice.

Some advisers say taxpayers should get advice before using the disclosure. Due to the complex nature of crypto taxes and the fact that many years of value may remain unpaid, expert advice should be obtained. For example, it may not be clear to crypto holders which crypto asset activities have generated taxable profits.
