The United Nations Internet Governance Group is to create a pilot DAO for the public sector.
The United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) group plans to create a distributed autonomous organization (DAO) in a pilot project to demonstrate its applications in the public sector, the IGF announced on December 21.
The IGF Dynamic Coalition on Blockchain Assurance & Standardization (BSA) wanted to show how public sector organizations can “use blockchain technology and DAO principles to develop transparent, rules-based and high governance structures.” The IGF did not specify how its DAO would be used, but emphasized the decision-making power of DAOs rather than financial considerations.

The Alliance offers open membership and holds monthly meetings around the world. It has stakeholders in government offices in six countries, including the central banks of Brazil and Nigeria.
The coalition is “hosted” by the non-profit Government Blockchain Association (GBA), which provides infrastructure support for the DAO pilot through its member Gosh, an Ethereum layer-2 solution. The United States is heavily represented in both the Coalition and the GBA.
Dino Cataldo del Acchio, co-leader of the union, said:
“This initiative represents an important step towards establishing new and secure management models, where blockchain technology can be used for public sector organizations.”
