Bitcoin surged on the week, rising more than 10 percent over the past seven days. The price now stands at $69,966 on CoinGecko—still nearly $74,000 higher than it touched earlier this month.
But most of this week's action is focused elsewhere: in the world of meme coins and tokens.
Among the major cryptocurrencies by market cap, one of the biggest winners of the week was Dogecoin. The ninth largest digital asset is up nearly 45% in seven days and is now trading at $0.208.
It was beaten by Bitcoin Cash as the 15th largest coin, which increased in value by more than 30% in the week and more than 50% in 30 days.
In the fast-moving world of meme coins, other tokens have been added. Especially this week's best performing cryptocurrency is DogwhipHat. The Solana-based token is up nearly 100% on the week and is priced at $4.52 as of writing.
Major coins and tokens have been on a tear this week. Often, when the likes of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana arise, memes can ride on their backs.
Another main meme, Shiba Inu, also had a lot of luck this week: the Dogecoin-competitor jumped more than 1o% in the price of the last seven days, sitting at $ 0.00003 on Saturday.
Other memes of note include Solana-based Bonk and Pepe, with 23% and 6% respectively.
Major coins like Ethereum and Solana have also increased in value over the past week – albeit slightly. Ethereum rose slightly more than 4% and is now worth $3,494.
Solana is up over 12% at $196.23.
