This Week On Crypto Twitter: Telegram Founder Sparks Resurgence

Description by Mitchell Prefer for Decrypt.

Crypto Twitter can be brutally black and white when it comes to narrating major events, but this week Telegram CEO Pavel Durov broke his silence for days after being taken into police custody in France.

In a lengthy letter to the public this week, first on Telegram and then on Twitter, Durov's arrest and charge Last week, French authorities failed to cooperate with the government's requests for moderation, facilitating illegal activities on Telegram

The letter proved to be a somewhat mixed bag for enthusiastic crypto users Hugs After Durov's arrest, he was like a martyr and a staunch privacy advocate. Producers of popular Telegram games were also lined up behind it.

At one end, Telegram's founder has strongly criticized the French government's accusations and how authorities have come to him as a dangerous precedent that can stifle technological innovation.

These statements seemed to surprise Durov's loyal fans, especially users Open networkTelegram blockchain selection.

But other perceived changes in Durov's letter and Telegram's subsequent tone have left some in crypto. The entrepreneur admits that his messaging app's content monitoring system isn't perfect, and has pledged to “significantly improve” its standards and practices for monitoring criminal activity.

Not long after that, CryptoTwitter was quietly removed from Telegram's refusal to monitor private chats.

Considering the timing of the change, some in crypto took the developments as damning evidence that Telegram “collapsed” under government pressure.

But Telegram itself soon pushed back on that narrative, insisting that the app's code and private chats policy had made no changes — just to clarify the language on its website. “Anyone can look at our code and see that there have been no changes,” Telegram confirmed.

For some digits, however, there were no such differences. Rhetorically, at least, his knee was braced.
