Top 5 Most Busy Blockchains Of 2025

Onchain analytics firm Nansen ranks Solana, BNB Chain, Base, Tron, and the NEAR protocol as the busiest blockchains in 2025.

Solana led the pack with 23.01 billion transactions, followed by BNB Chain with 3.89 billion. Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 Base hosted 3.29 billion in third place, followed by Tron with 3.22 billion and NEAR in fifth place with 1.89 billion.

In the year While 2025 will be marked by institutional adoption, retail-focused use cases continue to dominate transaction volumes, particularly on low-fee and high-income blockchains.

The Solana DEX boom and the memecoin craze

Solana's dominance comes on the back of a trade deal that led to a decentralized foreign exchange (DEX) status as early as 2025.

CoinGecko reports that the Solana DEX trade will be worth $293.7 billion in the first quarter of 2025, accounting for 40% of the industry market share. This is partly due to memecoin frenzy around celebrities and political symbols such as $TRUMP, a Solana-based token that will be removed from US President Donald Trump on January 18.

Solana remained among the top chains in DEX volume throughout the year, with monthly volumes at or above $100 billion, according to Defilama data.

BNB Chain's roughly 3.89 billion transactions, per Nansen, coincided with the rise of its own memecoin scene.

In 2025, Transaction Count is ranked third, as it leverages direct distribution from Coinbase's user base. 2026 Outlook According to Mesari researcher AJC, base protocol revenue will grow nearly 30 times by 2025, accounting for 62 percent of total L2 revenue. The same study indicated that the base ecosystem now covers DEXs, AI-connected apps and prediction platforms.

Tron and close 5 closed it.

Tron's 3.22 billion transactions reflect its role as the backbone of the stability coin economy. By June 2025, TRON DAO says that more than half of the circulating USDt (USDT) will be released on the blockchain. The supply of stablecoins has grown by nearly 40 percent year-over-year.

By 2025, the protocol completed the top five with 1.89 billion transactions at the Nansen level.

NEAR reported nearly 46 million users in May, putting it in the same activity metrics as Solana and Tron. Beyond the numbers, a key part of NEAR 2025's story has been its role in the privacy narrative via Zcash (ZEC), whose comeback was driven in part by the electric coin company's integration of Zashi's wallet with NEAR's Intents system. It allowed users to enter and exit ZEC's gated pool without going through central exchanges.

This merger helped Zcash's hedged supply to record levels and led to an increase in activity at recent targets, including a Zcash-linked volume of more than $17 million on the day.
