CFTC votes on allowing DLT-based collateral in commodities and derivatives trading

Caroline Pham, a leading advocate for digital assets, says US President Donald Trump is set to nominate a permanent chair for the CFTC.

US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Commissioner Carolyn Pham to chair the Commodity and Futures Trading Commission. The CFTC confirmed the appointment on January 20 in a press release.

Trump nominated Caroline Pham to act as the agency's acting chairwoman and was voted on by the five members of the Commodity and Futures Trading Commission.

“Focusing on the CFTC's mission, I look forward to engaging all stakeholders in this new capacity to promote markets that support economic growth and the competitiveness of the United States,” the CFTC chairman said in a statement.

Pham, who worked with the former Joe Biden administration, was the brains behind several projects at the CFTC. At the CFTC, she championed a regulatory framework for digital assets. She introduced the creation of a Digital Asset Markets Subcommittee to provide governance and risk management proposals.

Donald Trump has yet to officially announce the permanent holder of the chairman's position at the CFCC. The current owner of the space, Rostin Behnam, reported earlier this month that he plans to vacate the office on February 7th.

Speculation has it that former CFTC Commissioner Brian Kuntenz could be appointed as the agency's chairman.
