Trump is weighing in on his Bitcoin foe, Jamie Dimon, for the US Treasury

Former US President and current Republican ticket candidate Donald Trump said recently that he is considering JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon as his cabinet secretary of the Treasury if elected. He also plans to leave Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell in place.

Trump's comments stemmed from an interview with Bloomberg that took place in late June and was published on July 16. It is unclear whether the former president's thinking has continued following the July 13 assassination attempt.

Damon?

This appears to be the first time Dimon has publicly interacted with the Trump administration. The two have had a somewhat rocky relationship with Trump in the past, calling Dimon a “highly overrated globalist” in a November 2023 post on Truth Social. Dimon, for his part, has previously urged people to support Trump's rival Nikki Haley for the Republican nomination.

In a recent Bloomberg interview, Trump said he has “great respect for Jamie Dimon and considers him to be the next Treasury secretary.”

Although this is not a serious issue, the lack of demon removal may be a concern for the cryptocurrency and blockchain communities.

In a hearing on December 6, 2023, Dimon told Congress that the only real use cases for cryptocurrency are “criminals, drug dealers, money laundering, tax evasion.” “If I were the government, I would shut it down,” he added. Despite this, JP Morgan has its own blockchain token, JPM Coin.

It should be noted that Trump has been negative on Bitcoin and crypto in general in the past as well. In the year In 2019, President Trump posted a thread on X (and then Twitter) expressing his disdain for the digital currency.

“I'm not a fan of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which are not money and whose prices are very volatile and based on thin air.”

He continued, “We have only one real currency in the USA, and it's stronger, more reliable, and more secure than ever. It's the most dominant currency anywhere in the world, and it always will be. It's called the US dollar!”

Trump's stance on Bitcoin seems to have loosened since then. He is scheduled to speak at the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville on July 27.
