Unstoppable domains to apply for ‘.blockchain’ domain registration
Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com have created the “.blockchain” Domain Name System (DNS) enabled Web3 domain for launching and trading.
According to an announcement shared with Cointelegraph, the duo has partnered to register the .blockchain Web3 domain with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), global IP addresses and domain names.
“The new partnership will be based on the .blockchain Web3 domain, which will be submitted to ICANN next year in time for the much-anticipated six-year registration program.”
ICANN will implement new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) in the second quarter of 2026, giving Unstoppable Domains and Blockchain.com a year to prepare for the new domain application.
Over the years, Blockchain.com has introduced 40 million verified users, created more than 90 million crypto wallets, and supported $1.2 trillion in crypto transactions.
Speaking to Cointelegraph, Unstoppable Domains Chief Operating Officer Sandy Carter shared his excitement about how the partnership will boost Web3 adoption. She said:
“We are pleased to partner with Blockchain.com to provide consumers with a low-cost digital identity solution to enable a convenient crypto experience for the masses.”
Lan Castleman, president of Blockchain.com, echoed Carter's sentiments:
“Our combined efforts underscore our commitment to a user-centric web. We look forward to our partnership with Icahn to realize our shared vision.
After ICANN's approval, users around the world can register .blockchain domains for the Web2 ecosystem. Unstoppable Domains plans to extend domain registrations to provide unique domain names to consumers, brands and companies.
