The United States government is reportedly seeking more than $4 billion from Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, to settle the criminal investigation.

The US Department of Justice and Binance have discussed the matter, according to a report by Bloomberg News on Monday.

According to the report, the DOJ wants Changpeng Zhao's crypto behemoth to pay the maximum amount as part of a settlement in a case involving multiple criminal violations.

The talks between Binance and the DOJ highlight the possibility that Zhao could face criminal charges in the US, including bank fraud, money laundering and sanctions violations, people familiar with the discussions said.

According to reports, talks between the US government and Binance could be completed within weeks.

Bitcoin and BNB prices rose above $37,600 and $262, respectively, up 3 percent and 7 percent in the past 24 hours.
