Vitalik Buterin Says Ai Prediction Markets Can Make X Community Notes Faster.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin believes that artificial intelligence and predictive marketing technology will accelerate the production of community notes on social media platform X.

Community Notes is an X feature that allows users to add context to potentially misleading posts. Contributors can leave “notes” on posts, and if enough contributors find the note helpful, it will appear publicly below the post.

Speaking at Korea Blockchain Week 2024, Buterin said that while these notes are helpful, the biggest criticism of community notes is that they are “not visible quickly,” and that people can make mistakes before the notes appear.

Prediction markets can make other methods faster.

Buterin added that any delay needed to provide context on posts via Community Notes is “too much.” However, the co-founder of Ethereum argued that the solution could be found in the prediction markets.

Prediction markets are open markets that allow users to bet on certain outcomes. One of the examples Buterin gave is the decentralized betting platform Polymarket, where people can bet on highly controversial topics such as politics, sports and crypto. Buterin said:

“One way to think about prediction markets is as a building block that can make other methods faster. […] You take some existing methods, and you do something really fast that encourages you to do the best possible job.

He said each time a post is made, there may be a request to determine whether the community notes it. Buterin says people can use big AI language models and bots to bet small sums on this prediction market.

Buterin believes that this can speed up the process of getting to the truth and encourage the participants in the process.

“This method puts the note at the end, and then rewards the people who correctly predict the result, right? So here you basically have a low-cost but fast vector,” he explained.
