WalletConnect launches ‘Web3Inbox’ notification app for Web3 users
Web3 developer WalletConnect has launched a notification app for followers of blockchain projects, according to a January 16 announcement. The new “Web3Inbox” app will allow wallet owners to sign up to receive notifications from projects they're interested in, the developers say. The app only requires a wallet signature to log in and doesn't ask users for a phone number or email address.
Most Web3 projects currently use a combination of Web2 applications such as Discord, Telegram, and X (formerly Twitter) to communicate with their supporters.
According to the announcement, 10 different Web3 projects are available on Web3Inbox, including PancakeSwap, Chainspot, Space ID, Guild, Snapshot, TrustaLabs, Galxe, Sovereign Nature Initiative, Peanut Protocol, and Robots.Farm.
In a chat with Cointelegraph, WalletConnect Chief Operating Officer Jess Holgrave and Strategy and Biz-Ops Manager Kirby Horvitz provided more details on how the app works. According to Houlgrave, Web3Inbox “allows a person to connect to their Web3 wallet and receive […] All notifications in one place; You can opt out of receiving different types of notifications from different products and different apps.
Houlgrave says the team has seen projects use the app in a variety of ways to connect with their users:
“The use cases we've seen so far have really come from a variety of projects, from people like Snapshot saying, ‘Hey, it's time to vote on your DAO,' to NFT marketplaces saying, ‘You have an offer on NFT, someone saying, ‘Hey, I want to challenge you to a fight.' ‘ to the game, any application that wants to engage with the end user.
The app can be downloaded via a web browser on a desktop or mobile device and added to the home screen for constant access, Horvitz said. It is integrated with the WalletConnect software development kit used by most mobile wallet applications, so many types of wallets can be connected to it.
According to Houlgrave, the team plans to eventually implement an instant messaging system within Web3Inbox. But the team chose to focus on notifications as a first step to prevent the app from being bombarded with spam. “Really opt-in and opt-out […] Doing that in a peer-to-peer context is a little bit more challenging with technology, and that's what comes next,” she said.
