What Is Saga? The Game Network, Play Air-To-Air Matches And Launch A Token

The gaming-focused Layer-1 blockchain Saga protocol has made a name for itself in recent months with an airdrop campaign. This broke the record 13.4 billion dollars were loaded on Binance to get SAGA Token Rewards Once the simulation starts… less than a day is left as of this writing.

Not to be confused with the Solana Saga smartphone (or gaming titan Sega for that matter). Saga The mainnet and SAGA token are scheduled to launch on Tuesday, April 9.

With all this noise, it can be easy to lose track of how everything works. But don't worry, here at Decrypt's GG We've been watching carefully, reading about history, and now we know everything that's going to happen in this upcoming saga.

What is Saga?

It's a sagalayer-1s to initialize layer-1“, CEO and co-founder of Saga Rebecca Liao Explained in a Twitter (aka X) video. “There's nothing like starting live on the Saga mainnet.”

Instead, developers use Saga to launch their own chain (called a chainlet) or collection of chains. These chains can be used in parallel to power decentralized applications (Daps) or support applications on other chains in the Saga network. This is called horizontal scaling, which Liao says projects “can scale indefinitely.”

Currently there are. More than 350 projects– or “Creators“As Saga calls them – building in an ecosystem. Saga is technically not a network that only involves gaming, but most of the projects being built on the network involve gaming in some way. 80% of the projects on the testnet are related to gaming.

What is the SAGA token?

Along with the launch of the mainnet, the SAGA token will be available on April 9th. It was listed on Binance on the first day.

This comes after Saga announced that the project's launch campaign had broken the $13 billion mark last Friday. Binance Launchpool promotions offer soon-to-be-launched tokens to customers who share other cryptocurrencies: in this case, Binance Coin (BNB) and the FDUSD stablecoin.

DecryptHis own analysis of the previous Launchpool campaign found that Saga was the first project to break the $13 billion barrier, and that ENA and ETFI were close. While the token is a great incentive to turn people into “Saganauts” and get them interested in the project, there is a real purpose behind SAGA.

Anyone who has used cryptocurrency will understand the pain of transaction fees. On Saga Alphabet's paper, the current model is similar to someone owning Uber and paying Amazon to host the Uber app – it makes no sense! Therefore, Saga places the payment burden on developers, who are paid using the SAGA token.

Developers are expected to pay SAGA tokens in exchange for computing power, and as the deposit decreases, the developer must think about how to support additional computing power. Users can choose to pay per transaction or explore alternative options such as subscription, ad-based or freemium models.

SAGA will have an initial distribution supply of 90 million tokens (or 9% of the total supply), and half will be given to the more than 500,000 launchpool participants who will eventually hold their coins.

How did the air-to-air game work?

In December, the saga began “Play-to-Air” competition A campaign encouraging players to test the projects on the Saga testnet. It was at the time Theme around the Christmas holidays But the campaign went into the first months of 2024 without holidays.

Saga has turned on various games on the testnet, such as an action role-playing game. Rogue NationThe virtual aspect Generative Dungeonand a Pokemon Go-esque location game Venity. At the end of the tournaments, there were players who held the leader board of each game. Awarded with SAGA tokens.

However, it is important to note that this was subject to location as some parts of the world (including the US) could not claim the airdrop. Saga released one Qualification Guide It detailed who could and could not claim the airdrop before the window closed at the end of March.

While most of the games featured in this campaign are on Saga's test network, some games on other chains – including Avalanche– based shooter Slip– They are also featured in game-to-air contests as Saga aims to attract more users.

What is the origin of Saga?

When the airdrop campaign ended in March, Saga announced the game's publishing division, Saga Origins.

While no games have been revealed, the publishing arm promises a “full-service and collaborative approach” to bringing games to market. This includes user acquisition, community building and promotional efforts.

Saga Origins claims to be “the first and only Layer-1 Web3 game publisher” (see: Immutable on Ethereum).

“Origins of Saga is our love letter to developers building games in Web3,” Liao said in the release. “While the onus of bringing users to platforms often falls on game developers, we want to buck that convention and use our platform to bring users to games instead.”

The Saga mainnet boot goes live on Tuesday, April 9th. The team has endless grand plans to launch future Layer-1s of the Layer-1 network. But will Binance's hype, horizontal scale and publishing division be enough to bring Web3 games to the mainstream? The saga begins on Tuesday.
