When Tether enters infrastructure, energy production, CEO Arduino says
Paolo Arduino became Tether's CEO on December 1st, stepping down from his position as chief technology officer in 2017.
It is a good time for the company. Tether is on track to make $4.5 billion in profits this year with its core business, Arduino said. He spoke to Cointelegraph about the upcoming changes to the company's product line and its overall positioning.
“As we will show next quarter, Tether is more expensive than USDT,” Arduino said. For one thing, Tether will increasingly become an infrastructure provider. Arduino likes the “web3 core”, but isn't very happy with its performance, calling it foamy.
“There's some talk about real-world properties, but I think it's more important to have real-world ecosystems.”
Innovations from the crypto world have to be “almost hidden” from the public, focusing on what technology does, not how it works, Arduino said. He is passionate about the communications app Kit and the platform Holepunch, where he is chief strategy officer.
WhatsApp is down globally. It has no servers. All connections are made directly between peer devices. Complete privacy. In reality, the biggest lie is that people need a cloud/centralized infrastructure to communicate with friends and family. Be https://t.co/4Wexvzjy95.

Holepunch is decentralized, but not blockchain. It took its inspiration from BitTorrent, Arduino said. Keet allows users to connect with each other and connect via their IP addresses for real-time communications.
Launched last year, Keet costs nothing to use or provide. It also does not generate any income, but Arduino will stand out in the long run.
“We believe Kate will be one of the biggest drivers of Bitcoin and USDT adoption in the world.”
Arduino says it has 20 developers working on the kit — a small cost for a company the size of Tether.
Kate's value proposition is based on technology and philosophy. “Maybe, if society was perfect, no one would need kits,” Arduino said. But the world is not moving towards happiness as I see it, and I think something like Kit would be useful.
This is because the kit reduces data centers, hardware, cabling and power requirements worldwide. Censorship is also inevitable. Apps like WhatsApp, Skype and Telegram have centralized servers and can be blocked, but anyone with an internet connection can use Kit at any time.

“At our core, we're not activists,” says Arduino. However, Tether's dedication to Bitcoin (BTC) is also based on principle. “We love Bitcoin and believe it is important […] Fighting the allegations is a waste of energy, he said. Bitcoin is resistant to inflation, political instability and more.
“Bitcoin is something that can withstand the wrath of God.”
Like Keet, Tether found a way to align principles and businesses in Bitcoin mining, which Tether is expanding exponentially. Ardoino argued that investing in renewable energy makes sense because fossil fuel-based electricity infrastructure is expensive and unpredictable.
Tether also builds hydroelectric plants in Uruguay and geothermal facilities in El Salvador. Geothermal power sources take longer to build, Arduino said, but they have a lifespan of more than half a century, twice as long as wind and solar power plants.
