Who is OpenAI Interim CEO Mira Murthy?

Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI's board of directors, On Nov. 17, he fired him, shocking the tech world, and appointed Mira Murat as interim CEO.

Since then, the board has been facing heavy criticism from major customers and investors. According to a Bloomberg report, the effort to return Altman to the executive role involved Microsoft, OpenAI's largest shareholder.

Meanwhile, Murthy is the interim CEO. She has been at OpenAI since 2018. At that time, the company operated as a non-profit research center, but soon turned into a business behind the global chatbot ChatGPT.

Prior to OpenAI, Murati spent a summer as an analyst at Goldman Sachs, followed by engineering positions at Zodiac Aerospace and Tesla, according to her LinkedIn profile on Women's Agenda bio — which, unfortunately, is no longer available.

Murthy in 2010 In 2016, she was reportedly appointed Vice President of Product and Engineering at Ultraleap. At OpenAI, she joined as Vice President of Applied AI and Partnerships, became Senior Vice President of Research, Products and Partnerships, and finally, as Chief Technology Officer in 2022.

The interim CEO was born in Albania and graduated from Dartmouth College, an Ivy League institution, in 2012. According to The Wall Street Journal, Muratti is a “product guy” who believes that AI should not be limited to research projects.

“It's important to bring in different voices like philosophers, social scientists, artists and people from the humanities,” she said in an interview with Time magazine earlier this year. According to Murathi, curators should be included in this group of “diverse voices”:

Murthy has not spoken publicly since the recent events at OpenAI. She no longer has a profitable LinkedIn account, and her last post on X was on November 6, when ChatGPT Turbo was released.
