Why the UK fears that humans may lose control of AI

Why UK PM Does Not Want to Rush AI Regulations

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that he does not want to rush to take control of artificial intelligence (AI) as the country prepares to host the global AI summit next week.

AI and crypto are the latest challenges for regulators around the world. Since the technology is relatively new, lawmakers need to figure out the most effective way to control them.

According to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, humans may lose control of AI.

Speaking at the Royal Society in London, Sunak highlighted the need to rush around AI regulations. According to the Financial Times, he worries about writing the rules for AI without fully understanding the technology.

He warned:

“Rapidly evolving technology makes it easier to make chemical and biological weapons, carry out cyber attacks, spread disinformation and sexually abuse children.” In extreme cases, humans can completely lose control of the AI.

Meanwhile, Sunak issued a calm warning about the hasty implementation of the AI regulation, but at the same time reassured the public by promising that the country's measures would prioritize their safety. On the bright side, a survey found that half of participants in the UK are using generative AI to improve their work-life balance.

The UK will host a global AI summit at Bletchley Park next week. US Vice President Kamala Harris is one of the confirmed speakers at the event.
