ToggleFemale Web3 Gamers Are More Optimistic Than Males: Blockchain Gaming Alliance
According to the Blockchain Gaming Alliance (BGA), women in the web3 gaming industry are more optimistic about the rise of blockchain gaming in the next year compared to men.
According to BGA's 2024 annual report, “Female respondents expect more than 40% adoption in the next year, with 38.9% more optimistic, compared to 25.1% of men.” The survey took 623 responses from participants in the Web3 gaming industry worldwide – from those working in infrastructure and marketing, to design, content, investment, media and AI.
Less than 20% of survey respondents believe the gaming industry will adopt blockchain in the next 12 months, while only a quarter of female respondents share the same pessimistic view.
Web3 Boomers are more conservative.
The survey shows that young people in Web3 games are more convinced that blockchain is the “natural” next step in gaming.
The majority (81.6%) of young game professionals (18-24 years) believe that blockchain adoption in the game industry will reach more than 20% in the next 12 months.
Meanwhile, the boomers are playing it safe — less than half (43.2%) of those 45 and older agree.
Several executives shared their insights with BGA, and the consensus suggests they are optimistic about the year ahead.
Founder Jesse Pollack says OnChain Gaming “bridges the gap between virtual and real-world ownership.”
“With an onchain game, players can take ownership of their assets and achievements and move their assets from one game to another,” Pollack says.
Sovrun's chief of staff Gillian Pua said that online games and self-contained worlds are a significant change in the gaming landscape. “These developments open up new opportunities for immersive and interactive experiences.”
Not everyone is on board. Matt Dion, founder of gaming consulting firm Always Shaming, told BGA that “onchain gaming is a huge space that's struggling to find product market fit.”
“It has had a particularly impact on bringing a renewed focus to space in integrating recent AI agents,” Dion said.
BGA is an organization that promotes blockchain in the gaming industry and is made up of the industry's most prominent executives.
Axi University has chosen to be ‘the game for all out there'.
Three years after the 2021 Axie Infinity boom, Axie University in the Philippines had to make major adjustments to its operations.
A university that supports thousands of Filipino players as its main source of income has had most of its academics leave by September 2021. Revenue from the once-lucrative game has plummeted since the cryptocurrency market crash, falling below the national minimum wage.
Spracky, the founder and community leader of Axi University, had two choices in the Yeeld Guild games: help turn the university into something sustainable or shut it down. Looking back, he's glad he chose to move on.
Speaking to Web3Gamer in the Philippines, the spunky, quirky and charismatic personality who has a near cult following in the Philippine gaming scene, explained that the university's initial mission was to provide Axies to aspiring Filipino gamers – many of whom were out of work and struggling in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic – playing Axie. I am eager to earn but need some funding to get started.
Like everyone else in the Philippines, Spracky found Web3 games during the pandemic. “A lot of friends and family were affected by job loss during that time,” he shares.
When he saw a friend's Facebook post about Axi Infinity, his curiosity was piqued and prompted him to investigate the possibility of getting paid to play the game.
With two other partners and the help of Yield Guild Games, they started Axi University.
At its peak, thousands of users played games with Axi University properties, working with the university on a revenue-sharing model.
But after the crypto crash, the number of users started to drop rapidly. They had to turn around.
Fast forward a few years, and the university has expanded into other ecosystems. “We call ourselves AXU because we're here not just for AXI, but as a guild for all the games out there,” Spracky said.
It has become more of an advice platform for people looking to get into any part of Web3.
“There are many reasons for this opportunity, you just need to know what you want to do with this place.
Spracky says the original Metaverse program will teach anyone new to Web3 — young or old — everything they need to know. They educate and equip them with skills they can use in the Web3 space.

The university provides scholarships to players in the overall YGG ecosystem for games, provides in-game assets and shares revenue.
“If you're the scholar, you get 70% of the token income,” says Spracky.
Spracky Web3's journey, from the highs and lows of Aksie University's construction to the present day, is the focus of a Metaverse Filipino staff documentary set for full release in 2025.

Beam uses blockchain technology to provide game developers with a sovereign network, allowing players to build proprietary games. Currently, around 20 games are featured on the platform.
The Beam network, which currently operates as an Avalanche subnet, will transition to a “permissionless, proof-of-consensus mechanism” following Aetna's upgrade to the Avalanche network and Horizon's upgrade to the network.
The Horizon update is expected to be completed by the end of January and after Q1 2025. When this update happens, rewards will start flowing to the network's validators.
“The awards are intended to act as a proven incentive to secure and maintain the Beam network,” Beam said.
