Worldcoin Integrates With Shopify, Mercado Libre, Minecraft, Reddit And Telegram

WorldCoin has launched a new version of its World ID feature, “World ID 2.0”.

According to the December 12 announcement, the new version will integrate with Shopify, Mercado Libre, Reddit and Telegram, allowing users to verify their humanity on these platforms.

The new app integrations will add to existing ones including Discord, Talent Protocol and Okta's Auth0, the announcement said. The new version allows app developers to choose between different authentication levels, from “lite” to “high”.

According to the announcement, these new standards are intended to provide more ways for people to use their World ID based on the application's security needs, and to prevent individuals from sharing more information than they need or giving more to an app than they need to. For example, an application that requires high security may require users to have an ID authenticated by Orb. In contrast, convenience-oriented applications may only need a “Device Auth” global identifier tied to the user's mobile phone.

A WorldCoin representative explained to Cointelegraph that Shopify stores can now individually choose the level of integration they want. “[F]Or the new Shopify integration stores define the human level required to create coupons and then redeem them (options include a ‘device verified' step on the individual's smartphone or Orb verified level).

Worldcoin says the new features will help reduce losses to bots by not requiring users to provide their personal information to the apps they use. He cited a report from CNBC that said $100 billion a year is being lost by retailers to ‘receipt fraud, bots and coupon sorting'.

Worldcoin was first launched in July. It has been controversial for its high level of authentication by scanning the user's iris and setting up zero-knowledge authentication, which critics say could allow biometric data to be leaked. Worldcoin has defended its actions by saying that it only stores the iris scan confirmation, but not the scan itself.
